There are many different types of retaining walls and the type you use will depend on the purpose of the wall, the material you are using, and the budget you have. In this blog post, we will go over the different types of retaining walls and when you should use them.
Gravity Retaining Walls
Gravity retaining walls are the most common type of retaining wall. They are made of heavyweight materials such as concrete, stone, or brick and they rely on their own weight to hold back the soil. Gravity walls are not suitable for very tall walls or for walls that are holding back a lot of water.
Anchored Retaining Walls
Anchored retaining walls are similar to gravity walls but they also have cables or other elements that are anchored into the ground or bedrock. This provides additional support and prevents the wall from tipping over. Anchored walls can be made of lighter materials than gravity walls because they do not have to bear as much weight. They are often used for very tall walls or for walls that are holding back a lot of water.
Sheet Pile Retaining Walls
Sheet pile retaining walls are made of interlocking sheets of wood, metal, or plastic that are driven into the ground. They are often used in situations where it is not possible to build a traditional retaining wall. Sheet pile walls are not suitable for very tall walls or for walls that need to be very strong.
Retaining walls are an important part of many construction projects. They can be used to improve the stability of a slope or for landscaping purposes.
